Cortagen is a synthetic tetrapeptide with the amino acid sequence Ala-Glu-Asp-Pro (AEDP). It was designed by Professor Vladimir Khavinson and colleagues at the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology based on the amino acid composition of cortexin, a polypeptide complex derived from cerebral cortex tissue. It belongs to the same Khavinson short-peptide bioregulator class as Epithalon and Chonluten.

In experimental settings, Cortagen is used to investigate tissue-specific gene expression in neural cell populations, neuroregeneration models, and peripheral nerve biology. As a compact four-residue peptide, it serves as a model for studying how short sequences may exert tissue-directed regulatory effects.
